As one of the Google apps that got rebranded in 2020, Google Photos introduced a simpler way to edit pictures on Android. Asides from the regular editing tools like cropping, changing perspective, adjusting granular effects, applying filters, and more, the Google Photos app also introduced two additional features recently to help you denoise or sharpen your images.
Since Google Photos is pre-installed on many Android devices, it can be your go-to app when you need to edit pictures on your device. To get started grab the latest version of the Google Photos app on the Play Store and follow the steps below.
How to edit photos in Google Photos:
- Launch the Photos app on your phone.
- Open the picture you wish to edit. you may need to tab the Library tab below the screen to view all the photos on your device.
- Once the picture is on your screen, tap the Edit button below the screen.
- From there, you can fine-tune the picture the way you like. You’ll find various tabs there. Here’s how they work.
- Suggestions: apply one-click effects to your photo. Tap any of the suggestions to apply it.
- Crop: you can crop your video manually or change its aspect ratio, angle, perspective, and orientation.
- Adjust: where the real “fine-tuning” starts. You can adjust the brightness, contrast, white point, black point, saturation, and others. Just scroll to the left or right and click the one you want to adjust.
- Filters: as you already know, you can apply various filters to your photos from here. Swipe on the filters to find your perfect match.
- More: this tab allows you to add markups to your photos. If you have other photo editing apps on your phone, you can launch them from there too.
- When you’re through fine-tuning the photo, tap the Save button to save the picture to your gallery.
Besides editing pictures, Google Photos also lets you edit the videos on your phone. You can try that out too.

You can choose from Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Express, Adobe Photoshop Mix, and others. These apps have many features, like those on the computer, to help you bring your photos to life.
Certainly, you’ll get what you’re looking for on any of these Adobe apps, but the most used one is the Adobe Lightroom app. It gets frequent updates for additional features too, which is something nice to see. Most of the features on these apps are free, but you’ll need the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription for other features such as syncing across devices.
Snapseed

Picsart
While many photo-editing apps on Android focuses on adding professional touches to your photos, Picsart adds tons of more ‘unusual features to the mix. You can add various filters, texts, stickers, lens flares, masks, and many other things to your picture on Picsart.
One of my favorite feature on Picsart is the “Cutout” tool, which allows you to remove background from images manually or with its AI features that now works offline.
What’s more fun about using Picsart is its social community where many creative artists share their edited photos. It also features “Remix”, which allows you to replicate other people’s edits with your photo. Most Picsart features are free, but you can opt-in for a premium version for some extra features if you like it.
AirBrush
Airbrush names itself as an easy photo editor, and you can’t but agree with that. Unlike others, AirBrush channels more of its features on editing photos for people. If you’re looking forward to editing photos for your Instagram, AirBrush is probably the answer.
It comes with lots of features to help you remove pimples and blemish, smoothening your skin, remove red eyes, and brighten up your teeth. Let’s just say “it makes you look beautiful.”
In addition to the “Beautification” features, AirBrush lets you apply the “Bokeh” effect to your photos. So, even with no depth information from the camera, you can add bokeh/portrait effects to your old photos.
AirBrush also comes with a dedicated camera app that allows you to retouch your photo with real-time tools before taking it. As said earlier, AirBrush is Instagram-ready. You can share your photo to many social platforms straightaway from the app.
