Many smartphone brands are gradually transitioning to including ultra-fast charging capability in smartphones. Even Infinix tested a phone that could charge from 0 to 100% within 10 minutes a few months ago. But what would you do if you don’t have one of the fastest charging phones, and you didn't realize your phone was almost dead until a few minutes to leave for the office? That's when you need some super tricks on how to make your phone charge faster.
If you're constantly upset because of your slow-charging phone, or you realize it’s not charging as fast as the first few weeks of using it, you need to try some fast-charging tips. These tricks will significantly increase your phone’s charging speed and reduce your waiting time.
How to make your phone charge faster
It’s simple; they are tricks you probably know but overlook because you don’t think they may help.
Making your phone charge faster has to do with two things (maybe three): (i) the charger you’re using, (ii) the working state of the phone, (iii) and temperature.
If you keep these three things in check, you’ll get your battery filled up within minutes!
Don't know-how? Here's how to make your phone charge faster:
1. Use your original charger, not any USB outlet you see
Like we said in “How to fix fast charging not working,” your charger and USB cable determine if your phone will charge fast or crawl all the way up. And if your charger is inefficient, every other tip/trick below won’t work.
So, ensure you’re charging your phone with its original charger and not from your computer or any USB outlet you see. Most computer USB slots are limited to a maximum of 10W power output (some, even 5W), which can be incredibly slow compared to power adapters. For instance, the Infinix Zero X Pro has an ultra-fast 45W wired charger that can achieve 40% battery in under 15 minutes.
Also, in this case, you'll want to avoid wireless charging, Power banks, and other USB ports not from your charger as they usually offer weaker charging speeds. e
2. Maintain cool temperature
Besides using a wall charger, another factor that decreases or increases your phone’s charging time is temperature. If your phone and the charging brick are too hot, the charging speed will decrease. And not just that, it’ll affect your battery life gradually.
Even when you're in a rush to fill up the battery tank, ensure to keep the environment cool to maintain fast charging time. Excessive heat will retard the phone's charging speed and also harm the battery life.
Meanwhile, that doesn’t mean you should put your phone in the freezer to improve its charging speed. If the environment is "too cold," it'll also decrease the charging speed and affect the battery life.
3. Turn on ultra-power saving mode.
If you’ve got a phone that supports “Ultra-Power Saving Mode” or something similar, you can activate it to make your phone charge faster. Its one feature I use when I have only a few moments to charge my phone.
Turning on Ultra-Power saving mode will cut you off from all battery hoggers like mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and others. It'll also help you end all background apps and processes, leaving you with only the Dialer, Messages, and Calendar apps to keep you reachable by friends, and alerted from your calendar.
And yes, that’ll effectively reduce your phone’s charging time since the charger has nothing to do than serve the battery with all its capacity.
And if you may ask, I prefer this trick as it reduces charging time while keeping me reachable via calls and SMS.
4. Terminate all active processes
Sorry if your phone doesn’t support "Ultra-power saving mode". However, you can still get your battery to pump of faster by terminating all background processes.
One reason your phone recharges slowly is because of the load of work you put into it. Are you trying to charge faster while playing a graphic intensive game? Downloading/uploading huge files? Or exporting your next TikTok? No, your phone won't charge fast.
To activate the fast charging engine inside your phone, you need to ensure the battery doesn’t have a lot of work to do.
Start by opening your Recent apps and closing all running apps (and your games, too). Then, let the phone cool off for a while before you start charging. If the phone is hot already, placing it in front of a fan could help.
5. Turn on Airplane mode.
Moving forward, you’ll want to cut yourself off from cellular networks to charge your phone faster. You have little to do for this; turn on airplane mode, and let it take care of the rest.
Wireless networks, such as mobile data, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, are other battery suckers you must shut off if you want your battery to take full advantage of your charger. And if you're worried about missing important updates, you'll receive them right after turning off the airplane mode.
To do that on an Android phone, swipe down from the top of the screen twice, find the Airplane button, and then turn it on. If you're Android 12 or later, you may need to turn off Bluetooth separately if it's connected to an active device.
6. Switch off your phone
Terminating all apps and turning on airplane mode may only help increase the charging speed to an extent. If you want to take full advantage of your charger, then turn your phone off. That way, the battery has nothing to do than refill its juice from the extravagant current the charger is pumping out.
Sure, you’ll miss phone calls and texts, but if you only have a few minutes to charge up the phone, switching off your phone would help.
And mind you, we recommend using your original, powerful charger plugged into a wall socket, not a power bank, USB port, or even wireless charging.
7. Get a high-quality cable and charging brick.
Do you know that some phones come with fast charging capabilities but inefficient chargers in the retail boxes?
Yes. We've seen some phones that support 18W fast charging but are only boxed with a 10W charger. That means the charger boxed with your phone might not be the fastest one to charge it.
With that, you need to know the charging capability of your phone (usually by going through its spec sheet), then compare it with the rating on its charger. If the charger's power output is low then what the phone can handle, consider getting a new “faster” charger.
On the other hand, USB cables can get damaged quickly and reduce the charging speed drastically. It doesn't matter if the cable is still working; it won't charge your phone faster if it has lost its quality.
You can experiment with different USB cables to see which charges your phone faster. Apps like Ampere on the Play Store can also help you determine which cable charges your phone faster.
The moment of truth
You only need a few tips and tricks to learn how to make your phone charge faster. Mostly, it requires you to shut all battery hoggers like wireless networks and background apps to allow the charger to focus on the battery and nothing else.
However, the charger you’re using matters a lot. If your charging brick and cable are not fast, you may turn off your phone and still not see any significant improvement in the charging speed.
So, the best thing is to ensure you're getting the fastest charger for your phone and that it’s working at its best. Otherwise, you may want to invest in a portable charger wall or Power bank you can take around to charge your phone even when you’re running late.
Finally, if you've got the appropriate charger, followed the tips above, and your phone is still not charging fast, consider upgrading to a fast-charging phone. Smartphones like the Infinix Zero X Pro, TECNO CAMON 18 Premier, and the TECNO Phantom X are some of the feature-packed, pocket-friendly phones with fast charging support you can get.
