From software glitches to hardware problems, there are many reasons why your Infinix phone is switching off or restarting automatically. Did the issue start after installing or updating an app? Is your phone running too hot? Have you noticed a hardware fault like a swelling back cover, sticky power button, or liquid insertion? Are you seeing signs that your battery might be due for replacement?

Solution for Infinix Switch-off Restart Problem

All these and more could make your Infinix phone restart/power off without your consent. If the problem started after your phone dropped, a damaged part might be the issue. Similarly, your phone might misbehave if an app you recently installed/updated conflicts with the system. It doesn't have to be a malicious app. Sometimes, a bug in the last system app you updated might cause it.

However, while focusing on that, remember that the issue might persist if you have an active power on/off schedule. So you may have to start from there.

How Do I Fix My Infinix That Keeps Restarting or Switching Off?

1.  Check for scheduled power on/off & restart

Before blaming the problem on a malfunctioning software or hardware component, ensure you haven't enabled a power cycle on your phone. The Scheduled Power On/Off feature on Android lets you customize your phone to reboot or turn on/off at specific times.

If your Infinix phone usually powers off or reboots at a specific time, you should check the settings first. Here’s how:

  • Launch the Settings
  • Scroll down and tap Scheduled power on/off and restart.
  • You'll find options for scheduled power on, power off, or restarting the phone. Check the toggles on the right side to confirm any active schedules, and tap the toggle to disable them.
  • You’ve disabled the scheduled power option when the toggle turns grey.

2.  Diagnose the malfunctioning power button

Besides automated restarts, your phone might reboot randomly if the power button malfunctions. Long-pressing the power key for 8-10 seconds will force a reboot on most Android phones.

Before trying software remedies for your Infinix phone’s automatic switching off/restart problem, ensure the power button is not malfunctioning. Press it a few times to see if it turns on and off the screen. And if you use a phone case, ensure it's not too tight or holding down the power button. You may remove it to check if it fixes the issue.

3.  Free up your storage

Do you have 10-15% free storage on your phone? If not, we recommend freeing up some space now.

The Android OS needs unoccupied storage to store new files and keep your phone running. If you've received a low storage warning or the free space is below 10%, it’s time to do some deep cleaning. Here’s how to free up space on your device fast.

4.  Get on the latest Android software

Running outdated or buggy software can also pose issues that make your phone restart frequently. Chances are your manufacturer has fixed the problem via a software update. So, keep your device updated.

  • Open the Settings app and
  • Scroll down and tap System
  • Click System Update
  • Tap Online Update and click CONTINUE if you’re on mobile data or connect to a Wi-Fi network first.
  • Hit Check for an update and wait a few seconds.
  • If available, download and install it straight away.

5.  Update your apps

Likewise, updating your apps is a sure way to fix software issues, including a phone restarting by itself. Here's how:

  1. Open the Play Store
  2. Click your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Tap Manage Apps & Device.
  4. Select Updates available and click the green Update All button in the top right.

6.  Wipe out malfunctioning apps

One thing to do when seeking answers to "Why my Infinix phone is not restarting?" or "Why is my phone restarting frequently?" is to uninstall malicious apps. But identifying those apps can be tricky.

Usually, you’d have to check if the problem persists in Safe mode. If your device works smoothly there, there's a high chance that a recently installed/updated app is behind the problem.

You need to find and uninstall those apps, hoping it fixes the issue. We recommend restarting and using your phone after deleting an app to check if the issue is gone.

7.  Get your phone running at a cool temperature

Shutting down is the last thing your phone would do to combat high temperatures. If the problem occurs when using the camera, playing games, or running any graphic-intensive task, your phone will throttle the CPU and GPU performance to keep the temperature at bay. And if that doesn't work, the phone may shut down or reboot automatically to protect itself.

If your phone restarts when extremely hot, let it cool down first:

  • Remove the case and other external accessories.
  • Put the phone next to a fan or where it can cool faster.
  • Close all background tasks and turn on Airplane mode.
  • If possible, power it off for a few minutes. It gets cool faster that way.

8.  Talk to a certified Infinix technician

The last troubleshooting option you’d want to try is factory resetting your phone. That would erase your storage and cost you time and energy setting up your space again. After all, it doesn’t guarantee to fix the issue if it’s hardware-related.
