Check dust or crack on the screen blocking the sensor
Right off the bat, your proximity sensor may be malfunctioning due to two problems - the software and hardware problem.
On the hardware part, a crack or dust on the screen may cause the sensor to malfunction. To be sure the problem is not coming from there, try cleaning your screen thoroughly (especially the upper part). While doing this, do it with a soft cloth. Do not use any object that can scratch the screen in other not to get into another problem.
Remove screen guard and check
Still, on the hardware problem, an incompatible or dirty screen guard may cause the proximity sensor to malfunction. This often happens on the screen guards with dark edges, so please try as much as to get quality and full transparent screen protector next time.
As this may not guarantee a fix, it's worth giving a try. Gently remove the screen guard, clean the screen again, and test the proximity sensor now.
Remove your phone case.
Your phone case may also be a culprit in this case. It happens especially if you have a 360° case that covers the upper part of the screen. The next thing to try is to remove the case and clean up the screen again.
Now check if the Infinix proximity sensor works fine. If it works well, get another case or continue to other solutions below if it's still not working.
Restart your phone
Now moving to software problems. Sometimes we may use our phone for several weeks without restarting it. During this period, the system caches lots of data in the memory. While the caches are useful, it may cause the system to misbehave when it's too much. So, if your Infinix proximity sensor is not working, kindly restart your phone. It closes all running apps, clear the cache, and refresh the memory.
To restart your Infinix phone, kindly hold down the power button for some seconds and tap restart. Otherwise, holding the power button for about 8-10 seconds will automatically restart your phone.
Check settings for proximity sensor
If the sensor still won't work after restarting your phone, you should try disabling Inadvertently mode on your phone. Although this doesn't fix the black screen problem on the call screen, it will fix the locks screen issue.
To enable/disable Inadvertently mode, kindly launch the Settings app, tap on "Display", toggle on/off Inadvertently mode to disable using the proximity sensor on the lock screen.
Perform a Factory Reset.
Resetting your device is always the last thing to resort to, as it may help fix software related issues like this.
Note: Resetting your device wipes all the data on your phone; including your files, music, videos, virus, bugs, etc. Endeavor to backup your device before trying this.
