Part 1. Can I Recover Permanently Deleted Text Messages? The answer is YES

Although there is no recycle bin on an Android phone and no undo button to undelete text messages, text messages can be recovered after being deleted from Android.

Understand the Basics of Android Deleted Message Recovery.

The truth is that when you delete a text message from your Android phone, it does not immediately delete the message from its memory space. Instead, it marks the space occupied by the deleted messages as "unused." As a result, if you continue to use the phone and create new data, the new data will overwrite the deleted messages and occupy the space.

I'm not going to lie to you: while it is possible to recover deleted text messages from Android, getting the deleted text messages back is difficult.

For one thing, the deleted messages' location is hidden in the phone's storage. Even with the best file manager app, there is no normal way to access the folder containing the deleted messages. You can only recover deleted Android messages by using SMS recovery software.

Another issue is that if you continue to use the Android phone after deleting the messages, the deleted messages may have already been overwritten by new data and become unrecoverable, particularly if the messages have been deleted for days or even months.

NOTE: So, if you have lost your Android data, please keep the following in mind:

To finish resetting your phone, follow the on-screen instructions. After that, begin setting up your phone from scratch. When your phone prompts you to sign in with a Google account, select the one you used to backup your phone. You will now have access to your Google Drive backup.

Then, select the option to restore your data from a backup, navigate to your Google Drive backup, and check the "SMS Messages" box. Your phone will begin to load content from your backup, and once completed, you should see all of your messages restored on your phone.

How to Restore Google Drive Text Messages

If you backed up your phone to Google Drive, your deleted texts may be included in the backup. Go to Settings > Backup and restore > Accounts and backup. Tap Google Account under your Google account to see if a Google Drive backup was created before the messages were deleted. If a backup is available, you can restore it to recover the deleted messages. When you restore a backup, however, everything created after the backup is erased.
